A return to closet space

Closets are nothing I consider exciting. However their importance becomes readily apparent when you have none available. Moving into the new bedrooms in early June was great, but we didn't have closets ready for these rooms. And as the closets in the old bedrooms had to be vacated for awhile, this left us with stacks of clothes everywhere. Not good. So now we're on the right track, we have hanging space in the master bedroom closet, and in the two older boys closets. Some pix attached ....... Still have to design and install some cubby space in each of the closets.

The Bathroom is Open !

We finally got a chance to use our new master bathroom yesterday. All the plumbing was already on line, but we needed to scrub and seal the grout in the shower before using it. With that done, we're officially in business. There's still some work to be done, installing towel bars, robe hooks, etc. , installing window and baseboard trim, installing the shower door, and performing some paint touch up. But at least it's usable now. One thing, something I mentioned to another blogger, you've gotta' like green to enjoy this space !!

What a Difference a Day Makes.

Within the slow moving beast that is our home addition project, there are portions that are significant, and move quickly. June 1st and 2nd fall into that category. New space isn't "real" until you're able to occupy it. I'll let the photos, a series of before and after pictures, speak for themselves.

June 1st, just finished cleaning up after 3 days of installing doors and trim. (That's airborne dust causing the interference in the picture) June 2nd pix taken less than 24 hours later after carpet installation, and the addition of furniture.

We spent the night in the new master bedroom. Ditto the two older boys in their new rooms.
As Homer would say "Woo Hoo".

Home addition project / Before and after pictures.

It's a shame I didn't know about Blogger at the beginning of this project. It would've been a great place to post progress as it happened, from the very beginning.

As background, we're a family of six, formerly living in a 2000 sq. ft. house. It had been apparent for awhile that we needed more space. (our daughter was relagated to sleeping in her crib in the dining room) After a few false starts in the planning stage, two with the so called "assistance" of different architects that didn't reap anything worthwhile, we finally we took matters into our own hands and designed the addition ourselves. Our information was then turned over to a draftsperson, who was well versed in County building codes, and construction requirements. She created the finished drawings (by hand, drafting board, t-square, etc. !!) necessary to get this thing rolling. Attached are some pictures showing what we started with, and what we now have.

As of May 2008 this project still isn't complete. We should be moving our bedrooms into one of the new parts in June, then modifications can be performed in some of the existing house. Hope we're all wrapped up by this fall.
